Heroes has taken the public and web by storm, inspiring many people, as well as websites such as this one. It’s been a while since I have posted regularly, and I thought I would start the new year with a different approach to blogging. You’ll see the regular stuff like promos and pictures, but hopefully you’ll also see more articles written by me.
Heroes, as most of you know, is the hit show brought to you by NBC. Since it’s first episode, Genesis, which aired back in September of 2006 was an immediate hit with viewers, bringing a fresh genre to television. It brought comic books to the tv with a more modern approach. It also spawned a successful weekly graphic novel, amazingly drawn.
It continued to grab the ratings, and dominated the 18-49 age group which it was aimed at.
It brought with it a great cast, which contained the likes of Greg Grunberg (Alias), Milo Ventimiglia (Gilmore Girls), Ali Larter (Final Destination, Legally Blonde), and some relatively new faces including Masi Oka, a relatively new star who had a small part on Scrubs.
In the shows 5 episode, named Hiro’s, we were given a storyline for the first half of the season, and a tagline, ‘Save the Cheeleader… Save the world.’ It was this odd phrase that sent Heroes fans into a frenzy. Episode 9, Homecoming, which was make or break for our Heroes, put an end to this tagline and showed the shows most elusive character, a serial killer named Sylar, caught. This was the highest rated episode so far, snatching a massive 16 million viewers.
The following episode, ‘Six Months Ago’ showed us the characters lives 6 months prior to the episode before, and also showed us Hiro stuck in the past, attempting to save his friend Charlie, who was played by Jayma Mays. This episode gave us a better look into the lives of our Heroes, and also revealed ‘Sylar’ to us, who used to be a timepiece restorer.
The end to the first chapter in the Heroes saga was episode 11, which showed us what happened to many of the characters after the Homecoming incident. The ending sequence was in my opinion the best sequence in Heroes so far, which depicted Peter being the bomb that blew up New York, the very same thing he has been trying to stop.
Two promos have been released for the upcoming episode named ‘Godsend’ and the episode looks pretty amazing.
So far Heroes has given audiences an amazing thing, and has captured an audience. It has proven to be an instant success in the USA, and is set to come to the UK on terrestrial in 2007. If the writers at NBC keep up the great work, this show will last for a very long time.
